Jacob Bodilly - Pottery & Painting
Jacob Bodilly was born in Newlyn, Penzance, Cornwall.
After studying at college and University in Ceramic Art Jacob studied and trained at Leach
Pottery St. Ives alongside Michel Francois and various visiting artists from Japan and Europe.
After leaving St. Ives Jacob re established the Boscean Pottery site in his family home of St
Just, West penwith. The site was forced to close in 2014 and Jacob set up Bodilly Pottery in
Devon and later Somerset for a few years. Recently Jacob has become artist in residence at
Ashley Court, Tiverton.
Bodilly Pottery
Jacob’s focus on pottery remains a timeless inquiry into the innate truth in traditional folk craft
wisdom and deals in energetics of holistic pottery making stemming from the life work and
teachings of Leach, Hamada and Yanagi.
Jacob is an experienced mentor and teacher for ceramics, and the arts in general. Jacob is an
accomplished Music Producer and a practicing Painter.
Bodilly Painting
My painting has been focussed on the use of oil paint and technically I am proficient at making
canvases from scratch with traditional preparation, hanging and installation/photography etc. I
have my own unique shade of blue which I formulated called ‘Bodilly Blue’ and have created
paints from materials that are previously unused by painters.
I have shipped my artworks worldwide.
