Extended Bio
My need to create has been with me since childhood and I have been fortunate to have had a broad and varied art and design education and a career in creative industries. My ceramics are hand formed, usually from stoneware clay. My decorative techniques are sgraffito and the application of drawings re-created as unique transfers. Prints use monoprint and linocut techniques usually printed on a heavy, handmade Somerset papers. Making handmade prints or ceramics is wonderfully addictive. Drawing an image, cutting and printing a lino, scratching sgraffito on clay all bring ideas out of obscurity to the point where they can be shared. In themselves the processes can be revealing, cathartic, soothing, energising and satisfying. Executing these crafts can also be infuriating, frustrating and confusing. My helpers are my press, my kiln and my engineer, problem solving partner. Both techniques make it necessary to find the essence of the idea, however curious. The lines, shapes, rhythms and patterns are timeless forms of communication, leaving space for the viewer to interpret the work in their own personal way. Do dive in and enjoy!
I create linocut prints and ceramics. My images reflect whimsical ideas which can lead us down a path of mystery and imagination. We are inextricably linked to our surroundings, nothing happens in isolation. I use shapes and patterns which have been universal for thousands of years translating what is around us through fresh eyes.
