Artist statement
Paintings and prints inspired by my travels in Europe and beyond.I particularly love painting architecture and reflections so Venice is an enduring inspiration.
Extended Bio
At art school I painted with acrylics and also made etchings and screen prints. I started painting with watercolours in the late 80s. I was immediately entranced by the subtlety and fluidity of watercolour paints which enabled me to fully achieve my visual goals. I love painting water and architecture so Venice is always an inspiration. I favour the quiet backwaters away from the famous sites and tourist bustle. I also particularly like the vernacular architecture of the South west region of France where medieval villages nestle harmoniously into the limestone landscape. I use a range of watercolour techniques to achieve the texture of the weathered buildings as well as the constantly changing reflections in the canals.
