Artist statement
I enjoy working in different media, mainly acrylic paint, collage and pen. I enjoy creating my own collage papers using a gel plate and on tissue paper. I am mainly inspired the natural world, especially the landscape of Dartmoor where I live. In my larger paintings I explore myth, story and the power of archetypes using intuition and imagination.
Extended Bio
Since I was a child, I have been an explorer of colour and form. I saw patterns, faces, and imaginary creatures everywhere around me – from animals seen in the grain of wooden furniture to fairie faces in the leaves above me. I turned naturally to express myself through image and poetry. It has remained a constant theme in my life, leading me to seek training and work in the arts and to explore many different visual media.
I have developed my artists practice over the years through batik, pastel, stone-carving, photography and watercolour painting. For many years I have been painting with acrylics using a method called Intentional Creativity. Using this method I explore archetypes, myth and story using intuition and imagination. In recent years I have also developed my mixed media work using paint, collage and gel plate printing– these are mostly semi-abstract landscapes inspired by Dartmoor.
I am a deep nature lover – a sister to all that exists in its natural simplicity and wild beauty. The natural environment is of immense importance to me in my creative work and as a person. The ever-changing colours and patterns of nature inspire and inform my work.
I am also currently working on a collection using my father's unfinished watercolour sketches as starting points for me to develop further using collage. I am learning a lot about keeping the essence of his beginnings whilst also making my own mark. My father died in 2018 and at times this is poignant work but also heart-warming to have this creative connection
