Artist statement
I am a landscape artist mainly in watercolour. We live in a world that still offers, despite man’s best efforts, immense natural beauty. I paint as a response to that trying always to capture the play of light and the atmosphere I encounter - whether it be in my home county of Devon or further afield.
I love visitors to my studio, so do !! Please come.
Extended Bio
FOREVER ON DOWN THE ROAD
I love beautiful places and adventures. Painting has become such an important and much loved way of recording what I see - whether that be walking the dog at dusk or an early morning ramble through the Medina in Marrakech - that I can no longer imagine life without it. My painting journey began in the autumn of 2021. A little over a year later, in late 2022, I was given an exhibition at the Jonathan Cooper Gallery in London, which featured work from Devon, Mull, Morayshire, Ithaca and Croatia.
My favourite artists have all painted that infinite variety of combinations of light and atmosphere, of landscape and sky. I, in turn, derive enormous pleasure from being out in the heat, the cold and the wet, in different places, at different times of day and year and I try to find the means to express what I feel and see using pigment, brush, paper and water. Painting has become my way of responding to, getting closer to and taking ownership of the beauty I encounter.
In March 2025 I had my second exhibition, this time in the JM Gallery on the Portobello Road in Notting Hill Gate and featuring work from Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, Shropshire, Mull, Moraysjire, Andalusia, Ithaca Ibiza and Marrakech.
