Artist statement

My journey as an artist began approximately two years ago, following retiring as a Mental Health Nurse it soon became apparent that I needed a hobby. After some thought I decided to try soft pastel painting and so purchased some pastels from the Range, I didn't know they came in different makes and softness! It has since become my passion.

Extended Bio

I love painting, challenging myself to produce the best I can. I started with sea and landscapes, I also now produce pet and animal paintings as well as insects and birds. I love the way the painting progresses from a blank page to a captured beauty spot or favourite pet. Loving the process, building and creating something from nothing. There really isn't anything quite like it, and when others like it to, that is the cherry on the cake. Having only been painting for just over 2 years I initially could not shake the feeling of being an imposter, a cheeky one at that. I still make many mistakes but this is part of the learning and developing process. As a retired nurse of over 34 years, it's hard to feel of myself as being something else. The art world is new to me and feels quite daunting, I think anyone can learn a new skill no matter their age or previous experience, I did do art O level many years ago and got a grade C!, so I knew my future was in art 😉
