Artist statement
Inspired by the ever-changing seascapes and landscapes I see around me I strive to evoke the beauty and tranquillity of nature in each piece. Through meticulous layering and stitching, I create both representational and abstract artworks, applying a variety of techniques to new and reclaimed fabrics, whilst also incorporating other mediums and materials.
Extended Bio
Devon based artist Alison Whateley works primarily with textiles. She took up textile art in her late forties and since then her work has continued to evolve. After moving to her own studio space in 2022 Alison has developed her practice to include mixed media and now produces both representational and abstract works inspired by the natural world.
Alison regularly exhibits her artwork nationally, with pieces previously being selected for exhibitions including ING Discerning Eye and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. She was also a participant in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2024. In 2025 she was delighted to be elected as an academician of the South West Academy of Fine & Applied Arts (SWAc).
In addition to her original pieces, available through a limited number of galleries and her website, Alison sells her work in person at art and craft fairs across the UK. She also offers prints and greeting cards through her online Etsy shop.
