I have been a practicing artist for over thirty years; working on public and private commissions, creating and selling my own artwork, teaching various art classes and have also had my own international sculpture business.
My personal work is largely influenced by nature and colour, I work using a a variety of mediums and materials in two and three dimensional forms and often mix the two together. I do not limit myself to working within one or two mediums; I use the medium I believe will capture the feeling, drive and emotion behind the work. This leads to a diverse, multitude of textural surfaces in my two dimensional work and an exciting collaboration of structural forms in my three dimensional work.
Colour is always a great source of inspiration to me, I use colour to evoke our natural instincts and play with our automatic emotional responses. Often in my paintings the colour is the subject, allowing the viewer to become absorbed into the pieces suggestive power.
The paradoxical qualities of nature has a tremendous influence within my work. How nature is beautiful, fragile and elegant yet also gruesome, resilient and brutal. My work fosters debate about the fine balance between these opposites and co-dependence. How for example New life grows out of death and decay.
I am intrigued by the constant complex involvement within all things, how nature reacts and diversifies its influence and cohesion. I see my future personal work continuing to unfold in this organic journey of exploration with form and colour at the heart of my creative process.
I am currently working on a personal body of work that has been funded by a private sponsor. I am also teaching weekly art classes, from my lovely studio in Exeter. The medium and subject matter of my classes and workshops vary so check out my Facebook page for up to date information and to view previous classes and workshops
