Phil studied Fine Art Painting receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Manchester University before undertaking Post-graduate study in the History of Art at Birmingham University. He worked as County Art Adviser for Devon until 2011. He is now a full-time painter living in East Devon.
Exhibitions include The Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Exeter; The Royal Society of Marine Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and Royal Institute of Oil Painters at The Mall Galleries, London; The Penwith, St Ives; Falmouth Art Gallery and The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol. His work can be found at The Steam Gallery, Beer; The Brownston Gallery, Modbury; The Vandlys Gallerie, Exeter
Phil is an Honorary Member of The South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts (SWAc) and previous Chair, he is an exhibiting member of The National Acrylic Painters Association (NAPA), he also continues as The President of Otter Vale Art Society (OVAS) and Vice President of Budleigh Art Club.
He was awarded The Adrian Henrie Prize by The National Association of Painters in Acrylic at their Annual Exhibition for the best collection of paintings and also The Dartmoor Magazine Prize for the best entry into The Greenhill Arts Open Exhibition in 2024.
