Louise Hutton Dream Art Bio

My paintings often begin with something that that stands out to me from a dream. It could be a character, colour, place or motif and I like to work it out loosely with pastels and charcoal, moving into acrylics, ink and oil pastels later. Working in this way helps me explore the dream. It can be so revealing and a lot of fun.

I have a studio in Witheridge where I live and spend many hours painting most days. I love painting outside on the Devon and Cornwall coastline and on Dartmoor and Exmoor too, so there is often a link to the sea and trees in my work.

I enjoy building up many layers of paint, pencil, ink and pastel - they’re like the stories of my life! I love exploring shapes, texture and colour, scraping through the paint with natures tools, brushes and palette knives like an explorer. I never know what I’m going to find or do next, and I trust this freeing process.

In 2026, I am taking bookings for demonstrations, talks and workshops on creating dream art and adopting a sketch book practice using dreams as inspiration. Get in touch for more information.

I was delighted to receive an emerging artist bursary from Devon Artist Network in March 2025 to exhibit during Devon Open Studios. I showed ten paintings at The Thelma Hulbert Gallery and The Beehive Honiton during September.

In June 2025 I took part in the International Association of the Study of Dreams Conference Art Exhibition. See the online exhibition here:
