Through my artwork I try to convey how I feel about natural world. Its wonder, awe, complexity but also fragility and the impact we have had on it. I’ve become increasingly drawn to trying to capture the changing light of the sky. How its constant change reflects the passing of time, but also how we often overlook its beauty and that of the world around us and take so much for granted.
In my monotone etchings light is my starting point, using it to asbstract the landscape and draw the eye to certain elements, focussing on nature and weather and atmosphere of the city.
My oil paintings are mostly 'plein air' so I paint them outdoors from life as I try to capture the moment and lights. Colour is the starting point for my paintings as it sets the tone and atmosphere and, for me, the emotion. Working in Oil paint gives me a depth of tone and colour I can’t achieve in other mediums.
