Bovey Tracey drawing, mixed media, painting TeignbridgeBrittaine is a figurative painter mostly working in oils who is currently exploring the themes of childhood and motherhood through a mixture of naturalism and symbolism.
These latest works, started in 2024, use her son and daughter as subjects and sometimes feature a maternal presence, either a self-portrait, allegory or symbol representing an aspect of motherhood.
She is influenced by painters who excel at virtuoso brush marks such as Sorolla, Sargent and Fechin, and more recently contemporary artists; Kent Williams for his narrative paintings and Jose Luis Cena for his depictions of childhood.
Brittaine is a a self-taught artist who has exhibited abroad as well as in the UK, including with Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
She is returning to painting (2024) after having a son and daughter in 2019 and 2023.
She currently runs life drawing sessions at the White Hart Hotel in Moretonhampstead and portrait drawing classes at Bovey Paradiso, Bovey Tracey.
