I am an artist based in Torquay working in watercolour. Together with drawing and painting, my work consists of urban studies, landscapes and seascapes from the UK and abroad.
I was born and grew up in Salisbury, Wiltshire, where the many historical buildings and Cathedral gave me great inspiration from childhood. I was always drawing growing up as I am sure many of us did, and my surroundings certainly encouraged my love of architecture from a young age.
In my teens, I began to use watercolour, learning how to apply this difficult medium through time, application and patience. I had gained enough confidence learning how to paint in watercolour, that I was able to hold my first solo exhibition. " The Inspirational World " was held in the summer of 2003 in Salisbury library galleries and proved to be a very important step in my artistic journey. This was not only my first solo exhibition, but the first time I had shown my work in the public arena. Later that year I moved to Torquay, where I am still based today.
Since that first exhibition, I have held several solo exhibitions and been involved with collective shows also. In the summer of 2019, I held my first international solo exhibition in the City of Krasnodar, Russia by kind invitation of the Cities Mayor. It was again an important mark in my artistry, and I am looking forward to holding more international shows.
In the Autumn of 2022, I was invited by the Director of Salisbury Museum to hold a 12 week solo exhibition, " The Timeless CitY " paid homage to the place I grew up in and the place where my journey began. It was such a great opportunity to share my work again in this way through a major exhibition.
Through the many years of creating work, I have always enjoyed every aspect of the creative process. One of the most important parts of creativity for me is to allow the wider audience to see the paintings, and this gives me the greatest pleasure of all. I hope through my work that the audience may see an unforseen beauty in a perhaps already familiar scene. I hope you enjoy the work.
