Artist statement

My art explores the unseen connections that shape our lives, from the bonds of family to the elemental forces of the Devon coastline. Whether in my figurative series or my semi-abstract seascapes.

Extended Bio

My current artistic practice, informed by my MA in Fine Art, marks a significant new direction with my figurative series, 'The Flesh That Binds Us'. This exploration delves into the intricate connections of family, memory, and identity — a search to capture the intangible emotions and bonds that shape our lives through the human form. This underlying interest in dynamic movement and textural exploration, also evident in my ongoing expressive abstract and seascape paintings, finds a particular resonance in the gestural handling and tactile layering within 'The Flesh That Binds Us'. In this series, figures cluster in close proximity, their forms abstracted yet imbued with a profound intimacy, embodying the complex interdependence and often unseen bonds that shape who we are. It is through expressive gestural marks and the tactile layering of acrylic paint that these paintings explore the nuanced tension and inherent tenderness within human connection — the delicate balance between our individual selves and our sense of belonging.
