Owen Williams
Painting

Owen Williams is a Devon-based painter and illustrator. He works predominantly in oils, portraying the beautiful landscapes of Devon and Cornwall from sketches created whilst walking along the lanes and coastal paths.
Originally from the North East, Owen feels completely at home in the countryside but is drawn to the juxtaposition of industrial buildings and machinery with hedgerows, lanes and rich red earth. Owen's focus is in shaping forms by painting the negative space around them while playing with limited colour palettes.

Designer/Maker.
I primarily make ceramics but my training and experience are an eclectic mix, having been trained in Textile Design and Fine Arts majoring in Ceramics and having worked in theatre props and wig making. My principal motivation is the making itself rather than the materials. The Inspiration from nature, the landscape and my garden remain a constant whichever medium I use. Currently I am experimenting with papier mache and mixed media.

I make pieces one-off items using both machinery and hand tools and techniques. I use local wood where possible, and other wood from sustainable sources, and I try to take the wood all the way from rough timber to finished article. I have been woodworking seriously for about 13 years. I sell at craft fairs and take occasional commissions. This will be my third year of taking part in Devon Open Studios at The White Room Creative Space.
