Devon Open Studios is a fantastic motivator for developing new work and showcasing pieces that have never been exhibited before. Whether you’ve already signed up or are considering taking part, it’s never too early to start planning what you’d like to showcase and how to present your work. Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing tips to help you prepare. March is all about sparking new creativity! |
1. Creative Production – Set a Production Schedule: Past artists have shared that Devon Open Studios is a great way to motivate them to create new work. Now is the perfect time to set clear goals for what you want to achieve. Experiment with New Ideas: Have you been eager to try a new material or method of working? With Devon Open Studios just six months away, use the event as a focus point to create new work. It’s a great opportunity to experiment with different materials, explore fresh concepts, and push your creative boundaries. |
2. Craft a Concise Artist Description |
Your artist description in the printed guide is an opportunity to create a brief, impactful description to draw people in and help them connect with your work during the event. |
Top Tip. Keep your description concise and engaging. Focus on your medium, style, and the essence of your work. Highlight what makes your art unique and why visitors should connect with it.Top Tip: Look at previous entries in the Devon Open Studios guide to see previous examples. Top Tip: Allow time to craft and edit your description. |
3. Begin Planning Your Space – Plan your Studio / Venue Layout: Now is a good time to start thinking about how you’ll arrange your studio or event space. Consider how you might display your work and create a welcoming, easy-to-navigate environment for visitors. Gather Display Materials: Research and start collecting necessary materials like frames, stands, and shelving to help present your art in the best way possible. |
4. Start Building Your Online Presence |
As part of the Devon Open Studios offer, you get a personal Open Studios profile page with space to add up to 12 images, further information about your creative work, links to your website, social media platforms, and online shops, as well as an interactive map to help visitors find your studio/venue. Social Media Strategy: This is a good time to start planning your social media posts. Think about how you can start to build an audience, such as: sharing sneak peeks of your studio and behind-the-scenes progress. Use #DevonOpenStudios and #DevonArtistNetwork to connect with other artists and build excitement ahead of the event. |
