Artist statement
We are a diverse group of potters sharing a passion for ceramics at Unit L Pottery Studio, close to the centre of Totnes. You will see hand thrown, hand built and slip cast work in stoneware, terracotta, porcelain and black clay.
We create beautiful functional and decorative ceramics from tableware, sculpture, gifts and jewelry with an array of glazes.
Extended Bio
Georgi makes functional table wares and gifts in black clay with nature inspired glazes. These forms are fluid and organic in the styling but refined to create a modern look. Her slip cast porcelain blends soft lines that are good to hold with interesting glazes that evoke landscapes and horizons. She has also been awarded Devon Artist Network Emerging Artist Bursary and will be showing some of the sculptural works created in 2024
Despina's work, from playful wall pieces to minimalist tableware, explores beauty and simplicity. Inspired by her Greek heritage and the British countryside. Her ceramics are made slowly and intentionally using traditional techniques and hand painted with colorful glazes and oxides.
Tracey creates a wonderful array of wheel thrown and hand built pieces that are functional, beautiful and accessible to all. The glazes she favors, primarily green, blues and whites, are inspired by the Devon coastline which she can see everyday from her home.
Katie hand paints thrown and hand built stoneware ceramics using cobalt blue and vibrant orange, drawing from traditional European and Asian pottery cultures and modern illustration styles. For Katie, the joyful connections between the natural world, history, her coastal homeland acts as inspiration for her work.
