Extended Bio
I have always had a fascination for geometric perfection which is contrasted in some way by imperfection or organic influence. Musical instruments have such a quality, in their form, shape and composition. I have developed ranges of jewellery that embrace this quality, for example, contrasting the precision of metal with the softness of leather or contrasting precious metal with the organic imperfections of marble, making each piece of jewellery completely unique. I use traditional jewellery making techniques and very precise use of soldering and construction. I particularly like the combination of tones and colours that are achieved with silver, gold and black, often using black onyx stones as a dramatic contrast to the metals which creates an edgy, rock’n’roll influenced style, which incorporates my love of music and musical instruments especially stringed ones. The fascination of the circle intercepted by the tension of lines, such as the guitar, will always be a source inspiration. I have a keen interest in fashion and am very inspired by 1960’s and 70’s retro styles, such as Mary Quant and Orla Kiely, having grown up with theses influences as a child. I have produced some pieces using organic subjects such as skulls and thorns, which I hand carved in wax and cast, and flowers that were hand cut from sheet silver, but I always aim to combine these natural forms with a sense of perfection as an item of jewellery, which requires a patience and perfection in craftsmanship. Although I try to achieve a mathematical correctness in geometric pieces, I believe that handmade jewellery holds a warmth and character that can be lost in machine made items.
I create high end, innovative bespoke jewellery. As an experienced craftswoman I mainly work in silver and gold, also precious stones, marble, leather and acrylic. In my workshop, located at an interesting Grade II listed vicarage you can view pieces for sale, discuss a commission, gain experience in making techniques or enquire about enrolling on a course.
