Artist statement

I am inspired by the wild natural lands of Dartmoor with its dramatic vast skies. I am also inspired by the rugged coastline of Cornwall where I spent my childhood. I also paint and draw vessels, plants and the body. I love to paint intuitively, building texture and interest through layers and gestural marks to create energetic and atmospheric paintings.

Extended Bio

I have always been creative ever since I can remember. I have focused passionately on practicing painting for the past 10 years. Every painting is a journey, a conversation, a learning. When I paint I completely immerse. its a whole body sensory experience. I use my intuition to decide every mark or gesture in each unfolding moment. If I don't come from this place, it doesn't work. I like to paint in an abstract way. it is more about the energy or feel of the landscape, sky and weather elements. I want to try to get across the sense of being out in the wilderness and feeling the wind on your face or the feel of the salty air or the sense of the vast open space of the wilderness. When I am painting still life in the form of objects and shapes, again it is just a suggestion of the subject and more about an atmosphere of quiet or stillness or a time of day or season. With my new big studio space in Dartington, I am able to now offer workshops and tuition. 1:1 or small groups. I offer prompts, guided exercises and a tailored personal response to the individual, depending on what they need to support them on their creative journey. Its incredibly fun. My studio space is open to visitors through out the year by appointment.
