Artist statement

The FSA turns 20 this year and, to celebrate, we're hosting a week-long series of events. Supporting the arts in East Devon, our programme will include live drama and music, as well as an exhibition featuring the work of Imogen Hallam, Dave Robinson and Allie Giles at the Springs Gallery in Farringdon. Come and join us for tea, coffee and cake.

Extended Bio

Lisa Hammond I'm a Ghanaian-born, Mancunian-raised artist, living in the quaint village of Farringdon. I have lived here for about three years now with my husband and we have just welcomed our sweet little boy. I specialise in photorealism and enjoy incorporating spiritual revelation from my Christian faith into my work. Aside from being an artist, I'm a passionate scientist, and I studied up to postgraduate level in the field of neuroscience . My creativity allows me to understand and appreciate science better. In both science and art, I aim to replicate the awesome wonder that God has made through creation, and how these points at His greatness. instagram.com/licobr/ Allie Giles Allie's artwork is inspired by her love of nature. Recently, Allie has been exploring different textures, revealing unique patterns and creating soft forms of images. www.bella-ink.co.uk / [email protected] Dave Robinson I’ve lived in Farringdon for over 30 years. It’s a very small village with a strong sense of community and lots of fields and huge trees. I like it here. I am a retired teacher and now a “Sunday Painter”. For many years I did illustrations, cartoons and various sorts of graphic design for small publishers and alternative newspapers and magazines. My work in the show is mostly of local landscapes because that’s what I enjoy painting most – fields, trees, hedges and the odd cow. Painting landscapes is about observation and a kind of immersive contemplation – a dialogue between what is there and what I see – shapes, light and colour. Imogen Hallam I have been exhibiting my work since the age of sixteen. I spent many years in the Mediterranean working on boats. During this time I had exhibitions of landscapes and seascape paintings. On returning to the UK in the mid-nineties, I completed a degree in art at Plymouth University. I studied illustration and wrote a children’s book, but on leaving college, I became very interested in exploring and creating three-dimensional works. I developed my ceramics as a freelance artist whilst working as an illustrator. I love exploring different mediums and styles. Art for me is about exploring self, expression of self and how I relate to my world and sense of reality. I find wonderful inspiration from the natural world, which I love – especially animals. My focus has been on my childhood passion for horses in the past. I wanted to revisit the awe I felt when growing up around these magnificent creatures. Horses for me have always held a special fascination. They embody freedom of spirit, power and grace. I have had a slight break in creativity on the arts front to be a bee farmer in the more recent past few years – I have been making hives and keeping bees – which is very busy time-consuming work. I am currently working on a project exploring regenerative farming and living on a wonderful farm. My current artistic focus is on nature and farming working alongside each other and connecting people to the land and food source. I am working in a variety of mediums to create works reflecting aspects of the farm and the nature within it. FSA 20th anniversary exhibition Founded in 2004, the Farringdon Society of Arts is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Based in a small East Devon village that is home to fewer than 300 people, the FSA has hosted hundreds of cultural events during the last two decades. These include art exhibitions, live theatre, talks, walks, music and more. In addition to showcasing the work of Allie, Dave, Imogen and Lisa during Devon Open Studios 2024 , we will also be presenting our own exhibition at the Springs Gallery, looking back upon the FSA's 20 years and all that we have done during that time. We are also looking forward to welcoming some old friends and familiar faces back to Farringdon, with a series of talks and events due to take place throughout the week.
