Artist statement
Those moments which stop you in your tracks and make you hold your breath are what inspires me. "Moments of Drama in Nature" grounds me but I love to have humour in my work as well. My main practice is with textiles , creating a fibre background then working back into it with collage and stitching but I also love painting outside and detailed drawing.
Extended Bio
I like to use humour and drama to explore themes of interaction between humanity and the environment. I always work from something I have seen- then embroider it- sometimes quite literally with silk fabric and threads. Always the underlying values are cherish the Earth and respect life.
Growing up in Birmingham in the 60's was so exciting- attending Bournville School of Arts and Crafts is my core.
Moving to Devon , my 32 years of secondary and further education teaching was focused on Art and Textiles to A level.
Textiles is my first love but I also like to capture drama in nature using watercolour and acrylic.
Working as part of an artist's co-operative has allowed me to engage with the public and sell my work.
I am currently using acrylic inks and fineliner pens to explore themes of interaction and the balance of nature , which we disrupt at our peril.I am also looking at the personal journey of a developing human being, how overcoming obstacles and identifying a focus for effort builds personality.
Colour, texture, authenticity; sharing a lived experience is what still gets me leaping out of bed in the morning. Every day brings new wonders. Find me on Facebook and Instagram and Lost and Found on Facebook.
