Artist statement

"Moments of Drama in Nature" has been my ongoing passion. Foxes calling across the river, the moment a frog leaps- I respond to what I have seen using textiles, collage, acrylic, watercolour and pastels .I love to try out new materials and create textiles items as well as paintings.

Extended Bio

32 years of teaching textiles at secondary level geared me up to paint and stitch non-stop since. I use humour as a communication tool but always have a serious mission- to cherish the Earth and respect one another.I place animals in human environments to expose the irony of the built environment- which is sometimes created to be uncomfortable rather than protective. I sold regularly from the Lost and Found pop-up gallery in Exeter which I ran for 3 years with my daughter Louisa Currier. My younger daughter Josephine Birch is also an artist and printmaker- we bounce ideas off each other. It's a family affair. Commissions taken. I sell framed and unframed original paintings in acrylic and watercolour, cards, prints and a range of textiles items including bags, throws, cushions and corsages. Sometimes I use the textile prints my daughter designs. Some pictures are textile based or collages. Oakleigh Studios open all year by appointment.
