Plein Air Painting and Sketching workshops – Newton Abbot Quay

Event Date: 21st May 2023 - 24th May 2023

I have now been creating my paintings from plein air sketches for the past three years. There is nothing like sketching outside. I really get so much from the experience and it’s taken my work in a new direction.

Some of my paintings are currently on display at The Cider Press Gallery, Dartington TQ9 6TQ and also at Seaglass Gallery in Lympstone EX8 5ES. If any of you would like to join me, to experiment with some loose sketching and painting outside using mixed media, I have organised two dates at Newton Abbot Quay TQ12 4AD. Here where the River Lemon meets the River Teign is an old railway bridge built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. There’s lots of wildfowl and feral pigeons here and I have also seen otters. Further from the quay into Hackney Marshes Nature reserve there are Kingfishers and other river and shore dwelling birds.
There is plenty of free on road parking close to hand and disabled access. Usually the cafe is open at Newton Abbot Quay. I expect this could be later opening on Sunday. I would like to encourage you to bring children or grandchildren along. I often take my children, who are now 12 and 15, out sketching with me. They might end up drawing something out of their heads instead of the scenery but at least they are away from screens.
Cost: £15pp
