Topsham mixed media, painting, printmaking East Devon

Steph Weaver Bio

Steph Weaver has lived in Devon near the river Exe for almost 7 years. She started printmaking in 2013 at Penzance School of Art followed by painting evening classes, whilst working full time. In 2021 after leaving a long career in nursing, there followed a whirlwind few years of learning and art practice (Diploma Art and Design, Fine Art Degree studies at Exeter School of Art and the University of Plymouth then the Year Long Studio Practice course at Newlyn School of Art).
Oils, raw pigment, collected earth pigment, homemade egg tempera, homemade gesso and ink feature in her artworks - mixed media often combining paint, collage and print, where a sustainable approach to art is important. Primarily drawn to exploring landscape and seascape, she also loves still life.
Prior to Devon living, Steph spent 30 years in West Cornwall. Outdoor sketching, photographing and gathering, all inform her works which explore a sense of place; realism and abstraction cross paths in expressive mark-making on interesting surfaces.
Steph is passionate about the contribution of art to our state of well being, having experienced this on a personal level and, from observing its positive benefits on groups in the community in her previous health role. Working at home in her small garden studio, Steph juggles her practice with caring for close family members with health needs.
