Stephanie Weaver Bio

I love living close to the beautiful river Exe where I have lived for 6 years and, where I am constantly inspired to create! In 2021, I left a career in nursing to combine caring for family with following a long held dream to pursue make art more than just a hobby. I signed up with Exeter School of Art and Exeter College where I gained an Access to HE Diploma in Art and Design. This was followed by study at Degree level in Fine Art where I gained a Distinction with Exeter College/University of Plymouth. I am currently undertaking the Year Long ‘Studio Practice’ course at Newlyn School of Art and looking forward to showing work in Cornwall in June.
Prior to Devon living, I spent 30 years in West Cornwall. Working as a health visitor as well as walking and documenting the coast path in spare time, I got to know and love the wild beauty of the area.
I still love to walk the Southwest coast path, mostly now in Devon, where I spend lots of time observing, sketching, photographing and gathering found objects to take back to inform my work in my small garden studio. Here, I create seascapes and landscapes, sometimes combining still life into the mix. I love the crossover between realism and abstraction and experimenting with colour and texture, mostly in oils.
A sustainable approach to art is important to me. I am also exploring other mediums such as raw pigment, collected earth pigment and using homemade egg tempera on homemade gesso bases.
