I can’t remember not being able to sew, from an early age I had my own sewing box and threads, making applique pictures and doll’s clothes from the left-over scraps from my Mum’s dressmaking. I studied Art at school to A level, embroidery being one of the subjects. I love being surrounded by colourful threads, fabric and fibres.
From being a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild and the International Felt Makers I have learnt so many new techniques and gained an awareness of the wealth of materials available today. Using hand embroidery, free machine embroidery, applique and wet felting I enjoy experimenting using different techniques to make pictures and 3D items, which tend to evolve rather than being meticulously planned.
My work is very much influenced by living by the sea and the natural world around me, sometimes including found objects from when out walking.
