I am an artist and illustrator with a particular interest in the study of horses. Through the medium of monochrome graphite pencil I strive towards creating detailed representations of form, texture, and the play of light, endeavouring to bring the character of my subjects alive on the page. I value the timeless quality of monochrome and enjoy exploring the versatility of graphite pencil.
Much of my life has been shaped by a love of horses, firstly through leisure interests and later in my professional work as a photographer. Now, as an artist, I find that many of my pieces are inspired and informed by the opportunities I have had to closely interact with horses, the way they move, their conformation, their personalities and what makes each one an individual.
When I am not working on a graphite project I can often be found experimenting with pen & ink. Here my work encompasses a wider range of subjects from horses to landscapes; describing shapes and forms through the use of patterns.
