Matt Le Breton is a professional glass artist, conservationist, and qualified teacher based in mid Devon.
He originally trained and graduated with Double Honours in Fine Art painting and English Literature from the University of Exeter/School of Art in Exeter before progressing to training in Art Glass work. Training with seasoned specialists such as Ann Pengelly and Jonathan Cooke and master mason Colin Price he has expanded his practice over time from leaded stained glass to kiln fired painting and silver staining to glass fusing and shaping. Specialising in kiln fired glass he uses paint, enamel and precious metal stains to create commissions and restore original glass from his workshop near the village of Silverton. He has produced complex commission for a wider variety of high proifile clients as well as church, business and smaller domestic projects
Alongside his own work he teaches classes for both beginners and experienced glass students with an emphasis on students bringing their own ideas and designs. He also facilates students work by providing kiln firing and consultation on their projects. He is an associate lecturer at Exeter College.
In 2018, Matt Le Breton with Rupert Johnston and Alice Hartford of RAMP Ceramics, set up the Devon Applied Arts Workshop. The workshop is a collaborative teaching and making space based just outside Silverton and hosts the studio practice of both Le Breton Traditional and RAMP. It also hosts exhibitions and workshops by students and other professional and amateur makers and has a strong remit to encourage and facilitate making and practical artwork.
