Martin Crack Bio

Untrained in art and after a career in Technology, Martin took the opportunity presented by lockdown and retirement to return to his former love of drawing and nature. Initially raising money for the Marie Curie charity through commissioned pencil and watercolour portraits of people’s pet dogs he went on to join the Cardiff Print Workshop collective, creating drypoint, collograph, Aquatint Etchings and monotype prints as well as working in collage and acrylic portraiture.

Martin loves nature and the natural environment, with an education in Marine Biology & Zoology, and he strives to capture its essence in form and function through his work. After moving from Wales and after 25 years in the Midlands and settling in Torquay where he has built his Print Studio (Erlwood Press) he is inspired by its environs, the light and changing nature of the sea and the community here.

Martin was lucky enough to be exhibited in the Royal Cambrian Academy Open Exhibition 2021 and 2023 (Conwy), the Hearth Open Exhibition 2021, The Turner house Gallery, The National Association of Astrophysics Cardiff, Devon Art Society 2023, TGA Babbacombe Downs, Politmore House, Open Light Project and many more.

He is actively integrating into the local art scene through local societies and is a member of Exeter Double Elephant Print Workshop, TAAG, TGA, BayCatArt, DrawBay and DAS.
