I work as a sculptor carving stone and exploring drawing, ceramics and jewellery making as part of my practice.
My sculptures in any media, explore humankinds relationship with nature. I am often drawn back to figurative work but often find inspiration in that which we produce, whether to value or discard.
The irony of my comment on our consumerist nature being made in an object to join that market is not lost on me -nor is the time and effort taken to represent the idea of nature through the formation of holes, characteristic to my work. Reminiscent of coral or vesicular rock they are decidedly manufactured, formed though arduous drilling and sanding.
The resulting objects morph between the representational and the abstract, the man made and natural depending on the viewpoint, both physically and theoretically.
