I gained a BA Hons in Illustration from Chelsea School of Art and an MA from the Royal College of Art. I taught Art and Design in London for 30 years before settling in East Devon.
Before I had to escape London to find the scenic inspiration, I now find this on my doorstep. The compelling and diverse land and seascapes of the Jurassic coast are rich with inspiration which energise my work.
Observation is integral to my practice, sketching and painting plein-air, I gather ideas for composition and colour. An earlier career in illustration informs my work and gives my pictures a narrative slant and revealing a natural inclination towards images which evoke a sense of place or sometimes disquiet.
