Kathleen Appleyard Jewellery Bio

My Exeter workshop overlooks the river Exe with its dependable seasonal rhythms. Inspiration comes from elements of nature, meandering water, foliage and moon glade reflections. A fascination with a variety of leaf forms and methods of articulation have become an important focus. From the drawing stage, ideas evolve or alter radically during the challenges of the making process. I enjoy the tension between form, function and the practical and aesthetic considerations of the fit, comfort and movement of jewellery on the body. Mostly I use simple traditional tools and processes and work predominately with recycled eco silver and recycled gold.

My longstanding commitment to Art and Design teaching began with Adult Education and progressed to a long-term lecturing post at Exeter College.
I am a member of Make Southwest, Find a Maker, The Crafts Council Directory and Handmade in Britain. My work can be viewed on my website, with a list of the galleries where my work is available.
