Jasmin Aldridge Bio

I am a self taught artist living in Ideford Devon with my partner, 3 dogs and a cat. I graduated as a mature student from Wimbledon College of Art (University of the Arts London) with a first class Hons in Fine Art Painting. Before this I had done a BTEC in Dance Movement Therapy at Dance Voice Bristol.

Artist Statement

My Art Practice employs a multi disciplinary approach to making, areas include: painting, drawing, sculpture, moving image and sound. I am currently working on a series of paintings and drawings, which are deeply embedded in the nature of where I live.

The archive is central to my practice consisting of things such as material objects, writings, scraps of paper and junk, memories, dreams, impressions, smells and anything which inspires me. This is a physical and psychological library of things.
I work in an intuitive and process led way which allows me to form a dynamic relationship with the material I am working with. I attempt to reimagine and merge images, ideas and textures through a process of recycling or collage.

I draw inspiration and knowledge from traditions such as; Shamanism, Druidry, Butoh, 5Rhythms and other somatic dance practises. I am interested in how the self can dissolve and inhabit an environment and embody as an extension of that place or thing. When I create an Art Object it is a product of this form of internal/external process.
