I am a sculptor based in South Devon, working from my studio near the River Dart. My practice centres on a deep connection with the natural world, drawing inspiration from organic forms, weathered surfaces, and the quiet rhythms of landscape and tide. The gentle asymmetry of a shell, the curve of a hillside, or the smoothness of a river-worn pebble often echo through my work.
I began carving stone in 2015 under the guidance of Maria Moorhouse at Sculptworks on the Dartington Estate. What started as a weekend course quickly developed into a committed practice rooted in direct carving — a process that allows the material to guide the form. I work intuitively, responding to the character of the stone as it reveals itself, creating abstract, biomorphic sculptures that emphasise flow, balance and presence.
Alongside stone, I create hand-built ceramic sculpture, exploring similar themes of fluidity, tactility and light. Surface and texture are central to my work. Many pieces are designed to be handled, encouraging a sensory engagement that goes beyond the purely visual.
In recent years I have been influenced by the philosophy of wabi-sabi, embracing imperfection, impermanence and the marks of process. Techniques such as kurinuki and saggar firing allow me to collaborate more closely with natural forces, welcoming unpredictability and elemental surface qualities.
Through both stone and clay, my work offers a quiet invitation to slow down — to notice subtle shifts of light across a surface, to trace a curve with the hand, and to reconnect with the understated beauty of organic form.
