Ian is a Devon-based realist painter whose work is rooted in a deep connection to place. After studying art to O level, he pursued a successful career as a Chartered Accountant before returning to painting in 2024, marking the beginning of his journey as a professional artist.
Working primarily in oils, with occasional pastel pieces, Ian specialises in seascapes and landscapes, alongside a selection of still life works. His paintings capture real locations across the South West of England—from the dramatic Jurassic coastline to the shores of Instow, Appledore, and Tintagel.
For Ian, the distinction between land and sea is secondary to the feeling of place. Whether depicting grass or water, each work is driven by a desire to convey the essence and character of a location. He is less interested in painting isolated elements like waves or rocks, and more focused on creating scenes that evoke the unmistakable experience of being there.
