Clare Willcocks Bio

I am an artist and illustrator living on the beautiful North Devon coast. There are two main focuses to my artistic practice: realistic oil paintings, and ink and watercolour illustrations.

My oil paintings are painstakingly accurate, with some pieces taking around 50 hours to complete. They are often mistaken for photos, but up close, every brush stroke is visible. I am inspired by the movement of water and the coast. My objective is to capture the beauty of fleeting moments and preserve them through my art.

My ink and watercolour illustrations cover a variety of subjects, including local scenes and special moments.

I run several sketching and watercolour workshops throughout the year, the best way to find out about these is to follow me on social media, or sign up to my newsletter at clarewillcocks.co.uk.

I will be taking part in Devon Open Studios 2022 with fellow North Devon Artist, Josie Grant. During the event we will be running workshops, painting live and offering quick portrait sketches for sale. There will be originals available for purchase, along with affordable prints, cards and gifts. I will be exhibiting a collection of paintings inspired by my artist's residency at the National Trust's Bucks Mills Cabin in June 2022.

I will also be showcasing some personal projects I have been working on: 365 daily sketches from 2022, my ink and watercolour 'little moments' project, and a collection of paintings of Appledore buildings.

Josie and I are very much looking forward to taking part in our first Devon Open Studios and would love to welcome you to our gorgeous venue at Tadworthy House. We will be showing our work in the stunning conservatory of a Domesday house, surrounded by a lovely garden, with tea, coffee and cake!

The Northam Burrows Country Park is 700 metres down the road, leading onto the glorious beach of Westward Ho!.

Hope to see you there!
