Working between painting, textiles and collage, my interest lies in the physical process of making, the discovery of unpredictable combinations and the tensions these create. Through a process of combining, layering and assembling, I bring together materials that create both quiet conversations and moments of contrast — the softness of wool against the chalky surface of plaster; quiet shifts of colour emerging through layered and weathered surfaces. The work becomes a space of both rest and exploration, rooted in themes of quietude and sense of place. Increasingly, my focus is on the physicality of surface: how texture, light, and subtle material shifts invite the viewer to slow down and notice more deeply.
Clare has been working as an artist and educator in Devon for over twenty years and runs art courses for adults with a focus on building confidence through an experimental and process led approach.
