Catherine West Bio

My work as a maker, facilitator and producer, explores the ecosystems of rural Devon, achieving balance between community and individual, especially for vulnerable groups, and increasingly, ideas of lost knowledge. I incorporate traditional techniques such as hand dyeing and wool spinning into contemporary views of sustainability and environmental and community care. I am the founder and a Director of Significant Seams CIC, a WRAP Love your Clothes Champion, and a Fellow of the RSA and the School for Social Entrepreneurs. I am also an Arts Award Advisor and Assessor. My work is featured in the 2022 book, "The Creative Instigators Handbook' and the 2014(?) book Craftivism: the art and craft of activism. Some of my recent projects of note include: The One North Devon Social Prescribing Pilot leading to 'Going with the Flow,' The Quarantine Quilt Project, and the Craft of Caring Mid-Devon.
