Bryony Lamb - Fused Glass Art
Inspired by colour and the beauty of the natural world, especially the Jurassic Coast, its geography, geology and marine life, I create fused glass pieces in my garden studio in East Devon. Always fascinated by glass art, I have been fusing glass for over 15 years, initially doing many courses, taught by amazing tutors at UCA Farnham and Glasszoo, Guildford.
I use powdered glass with metals, and often pressed seaweed washed up on local beaches, then sandwiched between sheets of glass. The transformation in the kiln from the high temperatures creates fascinating effects, colours and texture. I enjoy the creative journey, learning about light, colour, texture and how to preserve different seaweeds when exposed to very high kiln temperatures.
The fragility of the health of the coastline, marine life and the ocean, is a theme running through most of my work. Raising awareness of how the natural environment has been affected by human actions, as well as trying to express the beauty of landscape and nature.
I take close-up photos of my pieces to examine the different effects that occur in the kiln and with changing sources of light. Some of these images are available as blank greetings cards and prints, of various sizes.
I run workshops in my studio, participants enjoy being able to create something for their home or a gift, as well as finding the learning process therapeutic / mindful. I enjoy the challenge of commissions and am delighted when clients love the work I create.
