I studied ceramics at Bath Spa University College, initially wishing to become a studio potter. Needing to be more expressive than I felt throwing would allow I then started to explore making paper clay figures, and after graduating went on to study figure sculpture at The Art Academy in London. Here I explored different mediums..metal, plaster, resin, stone. Having tried everything I returned to clay. I love clay, the soft messy earthyness always puts me happily in touch with who I am and allows a natural playfulness. During lockdown, clay offered the perfect way to stay calm and I started throwing bowls, finding meditative pleasure in the repetition of actions: kneading, throwing, turning. I chose plain glaze to enhance the simplicity of the form: A quiet empty bowl contains the magical silence of everything.. Cornflakes not always required!
