My ceramics and paintings are inspired by the natural world, its colours and subtle variations, and the textures all around us. Paintings in watercolours and acrylics draw on remembered images of local seascapes, Devon landscapes, and trees. These influences filter through into my ceramics where hints of plants and seaweeds feature, and blues and greens dominate the glazed surfaces. Working from my studio at home I make brightly glazed wheel thrown, sometimes altered, and handbuilt items using grey, black, red, white or speckled clays. I am currently mainly creating handbuilt vessels and platters, each one unique with simplified abstract images swept across the surface, and contrasting textures.
I exhibit and sell my ceramics (and a few paintings) at Open Studio events, most recently in Devon Open Studios 2021, at Potters' Markets organised by Westcountry Potters (of which I am a member), and sell small items in local galleries (e.g. @100 in Crediton). I am very pleased to have been selected to exhibit in the DAN 'Fresh' exhibition this summer at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton.
I can provide one-to-one clay sessions in my pottery studio and tailor these to particular needs, but only for a limited number of people at any one time.
If you wish to visit my studio and have a look at what's ongoing or talk about a commission just drop me a line in an email:
