‘Mapping the Undercliffs’ exhibition

Event Date: 23rd Jul 2024 - 13th Sep 2024

In 2023/24 Seaton-based nature journaling artist Alex Boon mapped the nature of the Undercliffs National Nature Reserve (on the South West Coast Path between Seaton, Devon and Lyme Regis, Dorset) in the strip map style of John Ogliby’s Britannia Road Atlas (1675). Using careful on-the-ground mapping techniques, nature observations, and his own photographs, Alex developed three large maps in ink and coloured pencil. The maps and all supporting materials (books, maps, sketchbooks and journals) are currently being exhibited in the Rotunda Gallery at Lyme Regis Museum from 23rd July to 13th September. A selection of items by the artist, including a handheld version of one of the maps, are available in the museum shop. Museum entry is required to see the exhibition. Details of prices and opening times are available on the Lyme Regis museum website here.
